How TEACH Works
Donations from sponsors of students, and contributions from other supporters, are applied in underserved Mayan communities to help establish new schools, maintain classroom facilities, pay the salaries of qualified teachers, and purchase essential instructional materials. Donations also help boarding students who are living and studying away from home. With this support Guatemalan children are in school now who otherwise would lack educational opportunities.

WORKING WITH MAYAN COMMUNITIES
Recognizing that the success of any educational program depends upon the interest, cooperation and participation of the local community, TEACH seeks to involve parents and others in the community. We encourage the schools to seek volunteers who will help the teachers and students, help with administration of the program, and help maintain the school facilities.

SPONSORS HELP THE WHOLE COMMUNITY
Sponsors are asked to contribute $30.00 per month, either toward a particular child or for a specific school or center. Donations to sponsor a child pay the school costs of the sponsored student. And in addition your thirty dollars, along with the sponsorships of the other children in the school, keep open a school or boarding center that serves not just the sponsored students but also the whole community. Teachers are hired where before there were none, and TEACH insures that they are paid equitable salaries based upon their qualifications and the hardship associated with the location.

ENCOURAGING RELATIONSHIPS
Sponsors of students are given their student’s name and photograph, as well as information about the school the student attends and the student’s family. Sponsors are encouraged to write to the student; students are likewise encouraged to write regularly to their sponsors. Communication is ordinarily in the language of the person writing.
TEACH devotes 100% of the contributions that sponsor a child or that sponsor a school to the education of the children. Undesignated donations are first used to supplement support for TEACH projects. Less than 10% of the remainder of undesignated contributions goes toward the administration of TEACH. Upon written request TEACH will provide copies of its financial reports.
