What is TEACH?

TEACH is a nonprofit organization that serves Mayan children in Guatemala. In villages and small towns, TEACH establishes schools where elementary and middle school students receive instruction in math, reading and language skills. Host communities may assist in the construction of schools, and parents contribute a portion toward their children’s school expenses.

TEACH also assists residence centers for secondary school pupils who must live away from their home villages in order to continue their education. These children attend government or private middle schools ("Basico" schools) in towns a day or more journey from their homes.

TEACH accepts sponsor donations that make teachers, classrooms, and supplies available for learning. You can become a school sponsor or a sponsor of a particular child. Guided tours give sponsors an opportunity to visit schools and their students. Letter exchanges between students and their sponsors create meaningful relationships.
